Going Beyond The Punchlines

Gina Chin-Davis is an award-winning filmmaker based in California whose work explores disability, perception, identity, and the social systems that shape everyday life. She has produced and directed two feature-length films: I Can’t Sleep (2020), which received Best Script at the Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival and Best Sci-Fi Film at MidWest WeirdFest, and Nina G: Stutterer Interrupted (2023), a comedy special and documentary about the San Francisco Bay Area's only female stuttering stand-up comedian, currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Most recently, she directed CLEAN ENOUGH (2026), a short film about obsessive-compulsive disorder created through Brave Futures: Nuance of Neurodivergence, a filmmaking initiative presented in collaboration with Open Television (OTV) and FWD-Doc, and screened at the Apple Tower Theatre in Los Angeles. Across her work, Gina combines documentary and experiential storytelling to illuminate overlooked perspectives and challenge assumptions about disability and human experience.

The crew are from the BASE Film Extravaganza. BASE is an all-ages, all-abilities social engagement and activity center. It is a safe place to explore and display the arts as well as learn self-advocacy and other skills needed for navigating the world around us. BASE offers a variety of programs aimed at enriching life through the arts as well as assisting individuals in the pursuit of education, employment, and interdependence. Since the Spring 2022, BASE has maintained the Film Extravaganza aimed at generating short films produced from script-to-screen by people with and without disabilities. The BASE Film Extravaganza produced 28 short films in collaboration with local professional film studios, local actors, and local musicians. This will be BASE’s first full length feature.
